A BUSY SPRING AT SOLENT REFIT
It's been a busy start to the Season at Solent Refit. A number of power craft - all over 130ft - have been out of the water under refit. These include the MY Light Blue, MY OSPREY and SUDAMI, managed by Fraser Yachts. Another yacht LUNAR MIST has just started a major refit.
For longer term projects, several of the biggest yachts have been moved into the sheds using the transverse rail system. These are then scaffolded and plastic covered to contain heat and protect from the elements.
The 1500 ton horrizontal slipway is proving very popular and has had a number of visits, either for hull checks or for removal to the shed for longer term work. The use of the slipway is competitively priced and available to all boatyards, project managers and contractors. Call for availability.
Large mast stepping and unstepping is not a problem with the wide dockspace right alongside the water. Spars can be stored alongside the sheds. Cranage is available at a short notice locally.
MY Persistant, a longer term visitor to the facility now has a new french owner and further works are being completed before the yacht's departure. Windweaver from Lymington, is also a repeat visitor to the yard this spring.
The J Class Association has selected Solent Refit as the base for the Solent Event of their 2012 J Class Regatta. Six of these great racing yachts, ranging in size up to 60 metres LOA. With the arrival of many supryachts for Solent regattas this year the new berthing plan is well under way with new pontoons being fitted alongside the extensive floating base.
