We recently completed emergency storm damage repairs to the Norwegian Royal Yacht KS Norge whilst she was at anchor in Cowes Roads during the RYS Bicentenary regatta - all without affecting the King onboard!
We are pleased that Shemara Refit LLP have chosen to be at Solent Refit for part of the rebuild of the classic MY Alicia - being restored back to her original classic design
We were recommended by a former client and were able to act quickly and responded immediately when a Dutch barge with extensive fire damage needed to be hauled. She was put into one of our refit halls where her refit is now well underway.

Solent Refit, has recently completed building its own dredger and she is ready to begin the dredging programme to provide deep water berths for superyachts visiting The Solent area. Solent Refit’s 14 secure full-service berths will be capable of housing superyachts up to 120m.
“We have always had berths big enough for very large vessels,” says MD Allan Foot. “We have huge floating pontoons on the outer wall of the harbour, but until now we haven’t had the water depth.” He explains that over the last six months, rather than buying or renting a dredger Solent Refit decided to build its own from a salvaged barge. “Now we will be dredging the whole site and our licenses allow us to go down to five metres.
“Over the years, and especially recently, we have had a number of enquiries from larger boats visiting Southampton that want to dock,” continues Allan Foot. “They don’t really want to go in the local docks and the marinas are not big enough.” These berths will be available for workboats and super yachts wanting refit or repair work but will also be available for short term lay-ups or visits.
This former US military naval base, originally a support facility for a US invasion fleet is now a thriving and unique superyacht facility that over 80 vessels have successfully passed through over the last 5 years. Solent Refit, the Southampton-based refit yard in the UK, has entered into a preferred partner agreement with water treatment systems specialist Cathelco and its Antibes-based subsidiary HEM.
Cathelco, with headquarters in Chesterfield, Derbyshire (UK), claims to be a world leader in water treatment systems for superyachts and commercial vessels. The company supplies a wide range of equipment including impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) systems and marine growth prevention systems (MGPS) to protect the hulls and pipework of leisure and commercial vessels and is known for having developed a ballast water treatment system for superyachts.
In 2015 Cathelco boosted its activities in the superyacht sector with the acquisition of HEM, a manufacturer of desalinators and associated equipment.
Water treatment on superyachts
The new partnership comes timely as owners of ocean going superyachts will have to comply with new International Maritime Organization (IMO) legislation governing the discharge of ballast water.
This will involve the installation of ballast water treatment systems of which Cathelco is one of a few manufacturers capable of producing smaller or modular systems for the superyacht industry.
The IMO expects its convention covering discharges to enter force worldwide in November 2016 following ratification by 30 of its member states and achieving 35% of the global tonnage. However, some industry experts expect implementation to be pushed back to early or mid-2017.
Commenting on the partnership, Allan Foot, managing director of Solent Refit, says: “We are delighted to make it official that Cathelco is a preferred partner. It offers our clients peace of mind to know we can offer a smooth transitional package of works to speed up refits.”
